Application: | One of the largest bourbon and whiskey brands in the world previously sourced space from other distilleries to supply its bourbon and rye labels, but has now built a brand new distillery in Kentucky. Numerous warehouses at this facility age their bourbon in charred American oak barrels. |
Location: | Kentucky |
Building Size: | 60,000 sq. ft. |
System Style & Quantity: | Two Outdoor Systems per Warehouse |
Challenge:
The customer was in need of HVAC systems that could heat and ventilate their bourbon aging warehouse spaces. Vertical space was critical to the customer so that they could store more barrels in their facility. Johnson Air-Rotation HVAC Systems provided two electric heating and ventilation systems per warehouse, allowing the customer to store barrels much closer to the ceiling than traditional ducted systems would have allowed.
Due to alcohol vapors, the customer also needed their HVAC solution to meet Class 1 Division 1 explosion proof requirements. The Johnson team designed and manufactured the systems with a special electric heater, direct drive plenum fans with full aluminum (non-sparking) wheels, explosion proof fan motors, and damper actuators mounted out of the air stream. The design met all explosion proof requirements with full economizer capabilities.
